Into the Light

Do you remember the old-school "National Delurker Day?" Does that still exist?

In the nearly 5 years I've been blogging, I've never participated because I assumed I had no delurkers. But all of that changed last week when two different people told me they read but never comment. I was honestly shocked. I have delurkers! Whoo Hoo!!!

I know I haven't done much to keep regular readers around or for that matter, given anyone reason to comment. Only a handful of you respond to my posts (barring those lovely Middle Eastern spammers, What up?!) of which I am very grateful for your words.

Even though I say I blog for myself, it really does feel better when you know there are people out there that care enough to comment.

I've been thinking a lot about the evolution of this space and how I need to make some changes. I know I've said this before, but I wasn't quite sure what was wrong (other than general negligence) until now. When I first started blogging, I was open and personal. Over the course of time, I quieted down and became rather detached. This disturbs me because I'm honest and forthright in real life. It's time that I reclaim some of my original realness.

I hope you will help me recreate my little blog community! If you're a delurker (how I loathe that word), please come out of the darkness this week and say hi! If you are a regular reader and/or commenter, I'd like to know what you enjoy about this blog and what you'd like to see more of.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I would like to see a typical day in the life of Kim broken into 15 minute increments. How do you teach, plan, cook, shop, exercise, chauffer, travel, photograph and blog all while appearing showered and well groomed with your sanity intact? Reading your blog gives me hope and inspiration :)

I find your blog very interesting and artistic, and with your request, I made a point of reading some older posts. Since you're asking for comments, it seems to me that you sleep for only two hours a day. You are creative, and a person who does things rather than talk about them, which I admire. But your earlier posts have a more "honest" feel, where you talk about your successes as well as failures. Help your readers feel more connected to you by injecting some honesty, rather than feeling like they could never measure up to someone who seems to never have a difficult or disappointing day! Honestly, it's tough to comment on posts where everything seems bright and shiny all the time. Unless you really are perfect?

I read... I just enjoy your straight forward manner, you're right... some of that has been missing. I always enjoy when you take a critical look at the blog, which you seem to do frequently! :-)

I've been here and will keep sticking around. I'm no lurker! :-)

habitual commenter here :) I'm someone who loves specifics. Yes, an inspired musing can totally capture my imagination, but really love the deets. What you're cooking? More garden posts (I'm one to talk)? Leaving the homeschooling topic to B+W, maybe you could talk here about how that homelife shift has affected the rest of your life/work? As perhaps a "newer" reader, I'd love to read what happens when you quit being "so quiet" as you put it, as that doesn't seem like you. xoxo

Sorry about the anonymous post (that is me as #2)! I am Steph from Atlantic City and I have been following for the last year. I really DO enjoy your site, but would like to feel I know you better! Felt I was too harsh yesterday :-)

Hi, Kim! I am with Erin on the 15 minute increments, mostly because I would love to know how in the hell you schedule your time! Scheduling is my greatest weakness. Otherwise, I think the site is great (but you know me, if this was only about food and photography, I'd be thrilled. Everything else on the site is icing on the cake). I also love Bird and Worm and wouldn't mind reading more about your adventures in homeschooling...particularly that scheduling part! The site is a terrific expression of all your talents.

I am thoroughly enjoying all of your comments! Do not worry about offending me. I am one of the most critical people out there, so I can handle criticism/input very well. I promise to respond to each of your points. :)

Okay... It's 9 and I haven't had my coffee yet, but let's see if I can give my input :)...

As you know, I read many of your past posts- to get to know you better. For a period of time, (around the time that I started reading actually) you mentioned very often that you had a lot going on, and that you needed some time to figure out how to share and be less cryptic so to speak. You took some time off blogging and when you started blogging again, I got a sense that some of the others have commented on-- kind of a sense of "perfection"... It seemed like you started posting less 'journal-type' entries and more 'photo album/portfolio-type' entries. I really do like both, but it seemed to become less and less of day-to-day thoughts, happenings, and the other posts are interesting, but so much more so when there's a scattering of you as well.

I hope this makes sense! I really do admire you and have been incredibly inspired by you and your blog.
