Chroma :|: Cucina

In an effort to take a break from photo editing, I decided to spend Saturday in the kitchen. I was due to make my monthly batch of marinara and figured while I was at it, I'd make a bolognese and a big pot of minestrone, too.

All three recipes start out the same way -- with a "soffritto" (or "mirepoix" en Francais.) I don't know why, but I just love making them. There's something about chopping everything up, the mixture of color and flavor, the cooking it down - that I find comforting. But even better, I'd found the loveliest, colored carrots at Whole Foods which I thought would create a beautiful soffritto! And purple and yellow carrots in my already colorful minestrone would be stunning, no?

Because I literally couldn't help myself, I had to stop and take some photos before I put everything on the stove. Just try to tell me these aren't gorgeous!

Reflecting

Greetings!

With the holiday season in full swing, I've been a very busy photographer these past few weeks. One particular assignment brought me to San Diego to shoot a family portrait session for the lovely Jora of Domestic Reflections.

When she contacted me about the shoot a couple of months ago, I must admit I was totally nervous. But it meant that I'd finally get to meet her (and the family,) stay in their gorgeous home, meet the equally amazing Alice Q. Foodie and finally return to San Diego (where I went to college 16 years ago.) Mostly, I was just honored that she wanted to hire me for the job!

The weekend was a success and as I drove home on Sunday, I started thinking about all of the interesting people I've met this year and how many wonderful opportunities I've been given in these few short months since I started working again. Even though it has been a bit of a whirlwind, I can't wait to see where I'm headed next.

Here's a taste of what we shot. There were so many great photos, it was hard to choose just a few to share...
