Beep Beep

It's funny, just yesterday I found myself saying I could care less about cars...

But, I clearly forgot about this beauty. The vehicle I would choose to drive if I lived in Rome. A cream-coloured, vintage Fiat. We saw them all over the city and I was smitten at first sight.

I know it's a bit cliché, a Fiat in Italy. But the fact is, if I lived in London I'd want to drive a classic Mini Cooper (or if we were really rich, an Aston Martin.)

Or if I found myself in Paris or Monaco, I'd like a 1960's Mercedes convertible, s'il vous plaît.

While cruising the Amalfi coast, I'd definitely rather be seen in a 1959 red Alpha Romeo Guilietta Spider Veloce.

And in Africa, I'd prefer an old Safari Land Rover and a Katharine Hepburn wardrobe to boot.

You see...
I have it all worked out.*

Anyway, I fell in love with these sexy number plates. Look how big and bold they are.

And even when they are beat up and looking kind of sad, they still scream "shabby chic."

(For the sake of not ruining the mystique, I won't discuss the fact that I drive the most boring SUV in all of America.)

Mangia! Mangia!

Confession: I was not blown away by the food in Rome.

In fact, nearly every restaurant offers the same classic dishes: Carbonara, all'Amatriciana, Cacio e Pepe and Arrabiata. We ate our share of these, as well as loads of delicious pizza - but sadly, I had the horror of receiving (and sending back) a frozen lasagne. It was heartbreaking, I tell you!

Our two best meals came recommended by friends. The first was written up on several travel websites as being the "Best pizza in Rome." And days before I left, Jora of Domestic Reflections endorsed it as well. After a long day of sight-seeing, we somehow managed to get there just in time. We were third in line to get a table but before we knew it, there was an enormous queue all the way down the street.

Location: Pizzeria da Baffetto (original location near Piazza Navona)
Via del Governo Vecchio, 114
00186 Roma (Lazio), Italy

Energetic and lively, this family run pizzeria has quite the cult following with celebrities and tourists alike. And although I prefer a simple margherita pizza, we decided to also try their Baffetto Special which was topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, sausage, pepperoni, artichoke, olive, onion, and AN EGG! Unusual, but delicious.

Our other favorite meal also came highly recommended by two different friends, one of which has a sister who is a famous actress in Italy, so I figured it must be good!

Location: Enoteca Antica (near the Spanish Steps)
Via della Croce, 76,
00187 Rome (Lazio), Italy

We arrived early as the children were exhausted and famished. Although we were nearly the only ones eating at that time, our waitress was great and the food was superb! She found Max particularly charming after he busted her smoking around the corner of the building. "You're going to die! You're going to die," he yelled at her. She found it amusing to be chastised by a three year old, so she sat and chatted with the children while my husband and I ate in peace.

Unfortunately, I didn't get any photos of the food as I was too busy eating it! You'll just have to take my word that it's a restaurant worth seeking out the next time you are in Rome. And in the future, I will definitely take the time to query more friends on restaurant recommendations. We had very little luck using the guidebooks I bought because over half of the suggested restaurants were closed for summer holidays or impossible to find.

All in all, eating in Rome was rather disappointing and very, very expensive. But with all the wine, Peroni and gelato we ingested, it wasn't like we were going to wither away!

LSTN UP ↑

Several months ago, I discovered a great (and free) resource for new music and because I believe we all deserve some sweet tunes, I thought I'd share it with you.

I've been really lucky to have some hip friends keep me in the current music loop over the past year or so, but I can't expect the Juangrande's, the Sarah D-O-Double G's and RM's (Dude! Where's your website?) of the world to do all the work for me!

Okay... I can't really take credit, but Urban Outfitters can.

They share free playlists on their blog and I love at least 9/10's of the music. Plus, I've learned about several indie artists I've never heard of. You might too...

Check it.

If you are anything like me and have missed reading real writing on a blog, then go read

Seriously.

I started here, and it seems like the perfect place to begin.

Metaphorically speaking

This weekend I realized that life is not going to slow down anytime soon, so I'm trying to accept the craziness I currently live in. At least I left the sorrows of September in October's wake -- I've been riding high ever since.

That said, the sea of photos in which I am swimming gets deeper by the day. I returned from NYC with nearly 1700 new fish to fry! Undeterred, I am working through them, happy to relive an amazing weekend away.

So.... I totally loved New York.

I knew I would. I can't wait to go back and take it all in. But right now, I'm trying to figure out how I can move there. Anyone want to hire me?

Unfortunately, I can't share the wedding photos yet, as my bride and groom are still honeymooning in Africa, but I can show you my awesome hotel room. We stayed at The Standard and I loved it! I only wish I'd taken more photos, especially of the entrance and the lobby - but these will have to suffice.

As you can see, it was anything but standard...

14th floor. Corner room. Ceiling to floor windows with amazing city and river views. A peep show shower with gigantic bathtub. Kiss My Face bath products. The most comfy bed and bedding ever. And a minibar like you've never seen before (Take my word, I forgot to take a pic of it!) Highly recommended. A+
