Otherwise engaged

Last week I had the pleasure of flitting off to California to shoot engagement photos for my good friends, Alison and Mike. This October, I'll be taking their wedding pictures in NYC where they met and fell in love. Since they recently moved from bustling Manhattan to laid back Venice Beach, we figured we should use their new neighborhood as our backdrop - and what a perfect background it proved to be.

I think they are ready to take the plunge, don't you?

Where the grass sidewalk ends...

Have you ever had an idea for something you wanted to create, but someone beat you to it? For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to make entire walls of plants but couldn't figure out how to (other than letting them grow long and tacking them to the wall.) But then the other day, I discovered the Wooly Pocket Garden Company.

Is that not the coolest idea?

While we are at it and even though I saw this months ago (likely you did too) .... I'll take one of these Moss bath mats! How great would it feel to step out of the shower onto one of these? If only I didn't live where there is zero percent humidity!

And finally, I'd like to grow a planter of indoor grass one day. These tiles might be an idea, although I think it might be easier to build a low-lying garden-style bed instead. I'd like something I could actually walk on should the impulse arise.

Gladiator

In less than one month, I will be headed to bella Italia where I will finally get to visit the great city of Rome. I have dreamt about going there my whole life, so I thought it might be nice to buy something special for the trip.

One of the things I love most about traveling is taking a city in on foot. I can walk and walk and walk... with the occasional stop for a quick revival like a glass of vino, a Peroni or a scoop of gelato.

Now normally, I'd wear my trusty Birks (gasp, quelle horreur, whatever- I like them!) but... this is Rome afterall, and I'd like to be a little more stylish like the Italians, so I bought some Gladiator sandals. They are comfortable, chic and well... Roman.

I just love the bluish-grey color and that sexy zip-up back. Don't you?
